…via Google Friend Connect, I just wanted to give you a heads up about something. I was reading one of my favorite blogs today and they were talking about how starting March 1st Google is discontinuing the Google Friend Connect for non-Blogger blogs. That is a total bummer to me because as of right now I have over 700 sweet folks following One Happy Mama using the Google Friend Connect and so since I had NO IDEA about Google’s plan to discontinue that feature, I wanted to let you all know as well. One Happy Mama USED to be hosted at Blogger, but September of last year I made the switch to WordPress and so now I fall into that non-Blogger blog category. Sigh. Such is life, right? ;)
This is what I’m talking about:
So if you are one of the 706 folks who follow my blog using the Google Friend Connect (above), that means that you will no longer receive my posts in your Blogger dashboard, and I won’t be able to get new followers using that gadget in my sidebar. So basically now that gadget is pretty useless and I’ll be removing it from my blog soon.
There are some other ways that you can follow my blog to know when a new post is going up and so I thought I’d share those with you quickly so that you don’t miss out on any posts and because I love my blog readers and don’t want any of you to not be able to catch the latest posts here.
At the top of my blog you will see these icons:
Clicking on the pink button will take you to Feedburner where you can subscribe to my blog and you can receive my blog updates right in your inbox or you can get the updates in your reader, like Google Reader. It takes no time to set up at all and that way you won’t miss a beat when it comes to reading One Happy Mama.
- Another option I’ve been recently told about is Linky Followers. I’ve added the widget below my GFC widget so you an click on it to follow my blog. I’ve gotten some comments and emails about it and folks seem to really love it! I’ve signed up and it was easy and it’s FREE.
- There’s also BlogLovin’, which I totally forgot about. That’s another option! :)
I also Tweet about every new post and I make sure to post on Facebook as well so you can click on those icons and follow that way as well.
Thanks so much to all of you! I appreciate my readers so much and don’t want to lose any of you just because Google is making some changes yet again. Sending you all hugs and hoping you all are having a great week! Don’t forget to check out Project Life Tuesday below this post and enter the giveaway! I’ve got another giveaway coming on Thursday!! :) Hugs!

February 21, 2012 at 10:15 pmMost of those “follower” tabs have already quit working on most of the blogs I follow. I tried checking a few, and they don’t work already.
I signed up using the “Linky followers” (http://www.linkyfollowers.com/) and it seems to work fine.

February 22, 2012 at 12:14 amKristina, I think that even if you’ve never touched the site yourself, your blog comes up on BlogLovin’ … It’s popular, and free, and I think a lot of folks might be moving over to it. Your blog is up – http://www.bloglovin.com/en/search/https://www.one-happy-mama.com/ and you can claim it if you want to, but as I understand it, people can follow you there too, even if you don’t ever have a thing to do with the site.
This is one of the reasons google and I can’t be bffs. This and their discontinuation of picnik.

February 22, 2012 at 12:23 amKristina, if you didn’t already know, your blog is also on BlogLovin’ … which is pretty popular and another way for fans to follow you. You can claim your site http://www.bloglovin.com/en/blog/2902375/one-happy-mama if you want to, but even if you never once visit the site, it gives your readers one more option. I really like ease, layout, and just the whole package they put together.
