If there’s one thing that I love doing with my daughter it’s reading to her. I love to see her face light up when we read a great book or how giddy she gets when we make a trip to the library. During our last trip to our local library, my daughter found this book, “Crafty Chloe” and right away she loved it. She was drawn to the super cute and colorful cover and illustrations and, just like me, Caylin loves to be crafty and so knowing it was about some craftiness, well – she was sold. We of course checked it out and it was the first book she wanted me to read to her when we got home.
Well, Caylin was SO right about this darling book!
The story is about a little red-haired girl named Chloe who isn’t very good at the normal everyday kid stuff like sports, games, etc., but is VERY good at making stuff. I liked her already! ;)
Chloe’s dog, Bert, is often times her guinea pig for trying out some of the fantastic creations that she makes. ;) Caylin loved sweet Bert!
Chloe is on the mission to find the most perfect birthday present for her best friend, Emma and when a a mean girl (isn’t there always one of those around?) snatches the most perfect gift that Chloe wanted to buy for her bestie (a Flower Girl doll named Violet) Chloe decides to take matters into her own hands and does what any crafty girl would do in that situation- she decides to make her a one-of-a-kind something from the heart. ♥
Of course Chloe gets a bit stressed trying to figure out just WHAT to make Emma.
She was so distraught at the thought of not having anything for her best friend that she even faked the “chicken pops” so that her Mom and Dad wouldn’t make her go to Emma’s birthday party.
After a quick pep talk from her Mom, Chloe was reminded of what truly matters – friendship. So she got to work.
I won’t give away the ending, but trust me – the lesson that you learn at the end is one of those sweet, timeless lessons that every girl should learn.
This book is super cute in every way – from the cute sidekick dog Bert, to the whimsical and colorful illustrations by Heather Ross, to the most perfect ending – this book truly is a one-of-a-kind book and would be perfect book to read during the Summer and to have in your child’s book collection.
I’m so thankful to now have a signed copy of the book for Caylin. The author, Kelly DiPucchio, was sweet enough to send me an autographed copy for Caylin and you should have seen the look on her face when she got it in the mail! She was SO excited and I thought it was perfect how Kelly signed it, “Especially for Crafty Caylin.” Totally made my heart smile. She is my crafty girl. ;)
So thank you, Kelly. Thank you for writing such a sweet book that my daughter and I could share together and love. Thank you for the wonderful life lesson that it teaches and how it reminds us about friendship and how the best things truly are the things we make from the heart.
This book is one of my favorites. Makes me happy when I read it to my daughter and makes me proud to be, Crafty Kristi for sure. Always have been and always will be. ;)

June 4, 2013 at 8:38 pmRight now my daughter loves the Rainbow Fairies series, so while I don’t love the stories it’s fun because after a really tough year in first grade she is now beginning to read parts to me. That makes her very excited about reading and I love seeing her enthusiasm to read. For my son my favorite book to read him are Dinosaur Versus Bedtime, we have the board book and he thinks it’s hysterical.
