Parchment Paper Treasure Map

parchment-paper-map1

Hey there!

I wanted to pop in really quick to share this SUPER simple and cute little project that you can do with your little one(s) that they will LOVE. I’m telling you – this takes like 5 minutes (IF that) and I bet you most likely have this stuff on hand already so you can just whip it out, tell your kid(s) to gather around the table, whip it up and they will think it’s the COOLEST and play with it all day. I’m serious. My son thought it was the coolest and I totally patted myself on the back! Ha!

Ok, all you need is:

  • parchment paper
  • a sharpie or other permanent marker
  • some washi tape
  • a rubberband (we used a rainbow loom band since we have A LOT of those around our house in every nook and cranny it seems, ha!)

The first thing you do is just tear out a good-sized piece of parchment paper. This is going to be transformed into a super cool treasure map after all, so don’t be stingy!

Once you do that, flatten it out on a table and use washi tape or another easy to remove tape like painters tape, to all four corners so it holds it down good for ya. This parchment paper is a bit tricky and wants to roll up on you so that’s why we’re doing this. :)

Then you want to take your permanent marker and draw a super long, crazy curved, squiggly, doesn’t have to be perfect doodle-ly line on it. You can really even be MORE creative and draw actual little places around the house or yard and send your kids on an ACTUAL treasure hunt, but I just made a generic path and let my kids use their imagination with it, plus they can use it over and over again! ;)

Be sure to give your marker time to set up on the parchment paper – it will smudge if you touch it too quickly.

Tear out a couple of pieces of washi tape (or even painters tape – heck you could use duck tape even) and make you an “X” for “X marks the spot.” I made this one pink since my daughter wanted one, too! ;)

Then roll the sucker up just like a REAL treasure map because after all, this IS a real treasure map! ;)

Then just put a rubberband around it (*omit the rubberband if your child is too small – they can be a choking hazard), hand it off to your super excited kid and watch them skip off with the biggest smile on their face! I’m telling you – I just HAD to share this because it was SO simple, yet we had so much fun making it and they loved it!

Like I said, you could get super creative with this or just do it very simply like I did – the result will be the same – hours of fun!

I love how the parchment paper gives the map that authentic treasure map feel, too!

Anyway, I hope you try it out soon! Let me know if you do and how your kids like it! I hope you have a great day! Hugs!

It would be a lot of fun to make a “treasure” scavenger hunt through your house or yard with this kind of thing. Or, just have it around to use your pirate-minded imagination. Good work!
