With 2015 in full swing, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how fast the years are going by and how I am wanting to be more intentional with my memory keeping and when spending time with my family. Life can be so easily rushed at times, ya know? My kids are growing up so fast and I want the stories that I write down and the memories that I record to be ones that are not only the milestone memories and moments, but those every day moments that are so fleeting. That is why I am most definitely continuing my Right Now Challenge that I gave to myself a couple of years back. You can read more about that HERE.
I am also definitely going to continue using Project Life as my main memory keeping method this year. Honestly, Project Life is a breath of fresh air to me. I was getting so bogged down with “traditional” scrapbooking and all of the supplies that I hoarded, um, I mean, had. It was very time consuming for me trying to come up with titles and remembering the rule of 3 and picking products to use, etc. Project Life simplified it SO much for me and that is what this Mama needed – BIG TIME. It’s totally the best of both worlds if you ask me because it’s simple, yet you can customize it to work the way that YOU need it to work or for the style that you have. It’s also so super rewarding to just slip in photos and journaling cards and be done with it. The memories get recorded in a super cute and simple way and my family loves it. It’s DOABLE.
For my Project Life, I am going to be continuing with mainly the DESIGN A page protectors once again and then just adding a variety of different page protectors as needed, depending on what my photos, etc. call for. Right now I own a couple of different mini kits and probably about 8 of the editions. I will probably add a few more to my collection this year, but still keep it relatively simple and just mix and match. I’m never too worried about making it all cohesive. I figure that life is messy and wild at times – why shouldn’t my album reflect that?! Ha! Seriously though – I’m totally ok with just grabbing some supplies that I love and want to use and going with it. I don’t over think it, after all, the main objective is to record these memories, right?
I am doing a couple of new things this year that I am excited about. I saw on my friend Tracy’s instagram account that she was using this book:
I loved the idea of using it to get conversations going with my kids and just recording their answers to a question every night. So off I went to Amazon and purchased it (you can find it HERE) and it came the other day. I decided that for right now I’m just going to do this with Caylin every night since she is at a good age to really think about the questions and it’s a great time to just spend one-on-one with her. We’re having lots of fun. I’m curious to see how her answers change in the next three years. Once Jack and Luke get older, I’ll do this with them as well (Note to self: I need to go ahead and order them each one too to have on hand). This is also a great way to be more intentional with my kids at a time when it can be a bit hectic. You know how “getting the kids ready for bedtime” goes! Ha! ;) So not only will I go over the devotional that Caylin and I read every night, but I will ask her the question for that day and I’ll record it and we’ll talk about it a bit.
Jack is only 4 and is a little ham and so something I am doing with him every night is I have a little notebook and EVERY night after his Bible story I am going to ask him, “What was your favorite part of the day?” Then I’m going to record his answer, whatever it may be. I figured it would be a super sweet way to keep some memories and also capture a bit of his silly personality as well. A couple of answers I’ve already been given is “eating spaghetti” and “when it was nighttime and I was a Jedi!” ;) I think this notebook is going to be so sweet to look back on.
Now since Luke is a bit too young (he’s only 17 months) I am just going to try to remember to jot down those silly and sweet things that he is learning, saying and doing more. I love looking back on those as the kids get older and I do have quite a bit of memories like that of Caylin and Jack. With Luke being the third kiddo, sometimes I can get a little lazy in that department. I have recorded a good amount, but want to do more and look forward to doing the little “favorite part of your day” note book with him in the next couple of years.
So those are just some of the ways I’m going to concentrate on recording my family’s memories this year. I plan on continuing my Right Now Challenge posts every Friday and also my Project Life Tuesday posts. It holds me accountable and keeps me on track, plus I love sharing with you all. I am inspired by so many and I hope to inspire YOU to get those memories down.
It’s important. :)
Have a great day! XOXO!

January 8, 2015 at 2:10 pmGreat ideas! My little one is 17 months and I am shocked by all the things I can’t quite remember when I go to journal the previous month’s pages. I bought a notebook off of Snapfish that has my son’s name and picture on it and I am going to try to jot down a couple things I want to remember each day. I plan to keep it for many years to come, adding in many different kinds of observations/memories. I saw the idea on Becky Higgins’ blog, not sure if you remember seeing it? I only scrapbook a month at a time, and I use 2 page protectors for a total of 4 pages, if that makes sense. I don’t know the names of the designs very well but I do know one is the design A and the other is like design A but is for vertical pictures. Do you notice yourself taking many vertical pictures? I try to just get over it if a picture is going the wrong way in the album ha. It’s just about the memories, right??

January 16, 2015 at 1:37 pmWhat’s your advice for printing photos? That is where I get so hung up – with ANY type of scrapbooking! I go back and forth between my pages and my computer trying to decide what size I want my pictures and cropping and editing and printing. And then they print bad and I give up. Do you just get yours all developed elsewhere (like Shutterfly or something) and then only use 4×6? And cut your 4×6 smaller if need be?
