If you’ve been a reader of my blog for any length of time you probably already know that my family and I love all things Osmo. In fact, we’ve been big fans of Osmo for a good bit and I even incorporate their educational games into our homeschooling at times. We just love it and so we were super excited when the sweet folks at Osmo sent Luke their new, Little Genius starter kit last week. The age recommendation for this starter kit is 3-5 years old and Luke JUST turned 6 and so he’s just a bit out of the age recommendation, but friends … I’m telling you that your kids (even if they are 6, 7 and even 8 – shhhhh, don’t tell Jack I told you) will have fun with it. I love how Osmo has this starter kit geared towards kids in this age range. The original Genius starter kit is geared toward 6-10 year olds and so this is the perfect introduction to Osmo’s educational games if you’ve yet to try anything Osmo.
The Little Genius starter kit allows kids four different ways to learn and play through 4 different apps that you download for this game: ABCs, Squiggle Magic, Costume Party and Stories. These games are great and help engage preschoolers in core subjects and to spark their imagination, too! They will learn problem-solving skills and these games will inspire a new generation of readers and active learners. All of the apps are free – you just need an iPad.
The starter kit comes with a great silicone play mat for use with the games (Luke loved writing his name on it and it didn’t take him any time at all to know for sure that his superpower would be flying). ;) This little envelope is perfect to hold the play mat when it’s not in use. I love how Osmo is always thinking of ways to make their games easy to store for us Mamas!
The kit also includes: 38 silicone Sticks + Rings (BPA free – which I LOVE and am super thankful for) that are durable and dishwasher safe, too and 19 costume pieces. Both come in stackable, cute storage containers. Yep, Osmo rocks!
The ABCs game helps kids build letters with squishy, colorful Sticks + Rings. It’s playful, colorful and fun. Luke loved it! This game is great for pre-readers! Luke does know how to read, but still loved practicing his letters and I also found him creating cool designs and shapes on his own with the Sticks + Rings. I think that’s why he loved the game, Squiggle Magic, because in that game you use those Sticks + Rings to create animals, people and more it comes alive! So cool! I love how all Osmo games foster creativity in my kids! The Stories game allows kids to mix and match costumes, navigate through silly situations and have adventures. That game was Luke’s most favorite! The last game, Costume Party, is so fun because it allows kids use different costumes and experiment with different clothing and colors. They also get to watch the characters react to their costumes and have a dance party!
This photo is totally out of focus, but I HAD to include it in this post because it shows exactly how much fun Luke was having playing with the Little Genius starter kit. I’m not a huge fan of allowing my kids to play on their iPad a lot, but I think the super cool thing about Osmo is that you can take the tablet and turn it into a super educational + fun tool that allows your child to grow, use their imagination, learn and express their creativity. I just love that. Takes away that Mama guilt that I have and for that, I’m thankful. Ha!
The Little Genius starter kit is jam-packed with so much goodness for your preschooler (and even your kids who are a year or two past that). ;) It’s another great starter kit by a company that continues to amaze me each and every time they come out with something new.
